NOTES:

Raining Fire was written in 1985 to address the issue of acid rain.

The song was then submitted to The Acid Rain Coalition … who didn’t even have the decency to acknowledge they had received it! … let alone use it in any way.

Since then, when it comes to the environment things have only gotten much worse.

And the song can and does address the catastrophe we are now facing as a whole.

We have recorded the song several times over the years and made a video of it too.

You could drive a truck along the groove the band lays down here, solid as a rock.

And Graham Young’s guitar solo is just wonderful … as always … liquid fire.

NOTES:

The recording of this song came out of my father’s funeral, where a traditional Salvation Army Band with their traditional horns played … reminded me of my youth and the first organized music I ever heard … Salvation Army Bands. As we worked on the song the idea of supporting the homeless evolved … mostly because of the connection to the Salvation Army which is often associated with that issue. So we also made a video to accompany the song … after wandering the streets of downtown Toronto for several nights. Our intention was to present the video and the recording to Fred Victor Mission to support their comprehensive work in that area and to raise funds for them and The River St. Café (soup kitchen for the homeless) run by The Sally Anne. While we did get the mechanical rights to record the song we could not obtain the synchronization rights for the video from the lawyers of the songwriters for love nor money … they wouldn’t even talk to us! … so we were unable to complete the project as we had hoped. However, the musical adventure and the experience we went through were well worth the time and effort.

Gives me great pleasure to share our latest recording ... Raining Fire.

If that sounds like deja vu all over again to some of you, you are correct. This song was written in the mid 1980's ... at the time to address acid rain. It was recorded as a demo and offered to The Acid Rain Coalition. That recording featured some ex Imperials and Sam Reid of Glass Tiger. Raining Fire was the final piece on the Bobby Kris Now CD in 1998. With a 10 piece band, 5 piece horns and the guitar of Larry Leishman. Then we made a performance video of it at the Newmarket Festival 2018.

That video made me think we should go back into the studio with it. Had something to do with Al Cross and a maraca ... maracas rule! And it certainly does here ... played live with the kit ... not overdubbed. And the wonderful guitar playing of Graham Young on both occasions. To have a listen to our most recent version of Raining Fire pls visit ...

Since I wrote the song in 1985 it has become a metaphor for all of the sundry compelling environmental issues we are facing at this time. Unfortunately things have not gotten any better here ... only much worse.
